On Sunday 22 March, seven of our athletes were representing the Surrey County team at the national sports final at Birmingham NEC.

The athletes representing  the under 13 boys from Lanfranc were Taiwo Kamoju, Kertis Beswick and Femi Agbetoyin, Under 15 girls Shanice Harrison and under 15 boys Cameron Smith, Javari Cameron and Khalil Njoya. Archbishop Lanfranc students formed more than 25% of the three county teams.

We had to meet at The Archbishop Lanfranc School at 07.00am to be picked up by Mr Knight in the mini-bus, so we could then meet the coach at Streatham Swimming pool for 07.30 am. Then we had to make another stop to pick up the other outstanding athletes in Wandsworth at 8.00am. It was a very busy and exciting morning. The coach was full of athletes. Plus of course where would the athletes be without there supporting fans?

As soon as you entered the stadium you could feel the overwhelming pride of the athletes.  It took us three hours to get to Birmingham when we got there we had to sign in and go to our team managers for numbers and Surrey team T-shirts.  Then all the teams were escorted down to the side of the hall waiting until our county name had been called out. Then we were seated in one row for boys and another for girls.

When all the county teams were seated, we watched a presentation on athletics. Then to our surprise the organisers introduced Beijing Olympian Kelly Sotherton who gave a talk on when she was our age participating in the equivalent sports hall event.  She described what she achieved, how she has progressed to where she is today and how we could get there.  It was a fantastic day for all the athletes.

Congratulations to all these pupils:
