YEAR 9 PARENTS’ EVENING – WEDNESDAY 11 FEBRUARY 2009
OPTIONS BRIEFING - Either 5.00 to 5.30 pm or 6.30 to 7.00 pm
PARENTS/STAFF CONSULTATION EVENING - From 5.00 to 8.00 pm
You will be aware that your son/daughter is preparing to make choices concerning the subjects he/she will study to GCSE level during years 10 and 11.
An outline of the kind of options available and a description of the selection procedure will be presented to parents at a meeting which will take place in the Language and Communication Area. For the convenience of parents there will be two opportunities to attend this meeting; one at 5.00-5.30 pm and another at 6.30-7.00 pm. The talks are identical but allow parents the chance to arrange appointments around times more suited to their commitments. On the appointment slip the times of the talk are shown in grey, please indicate to your child which of the two meetings you wish to attend and stress that he/she does not book appointments with staff during this period of time. On this night you will also receive a copy of the option choice booklet which includes detailed information of the curriculum in years 10 and 11.
The importance of this meeting cannot be over-emphasised since it is only by having a clear understanding of what is on offer that you will be able to assist your son/daughter in his/her choice. Year 9 pupils have been preparing for option choices during PSHCE and are anxious to undertake this important choice.
In order to help with the organisation of the evening your child is asked to prepare his/her own appointments with the teachers you wish to see. Pupil appointment sheets will be given to your child by his/her tutor. To assist us with the organisation of the evening please complete the return slip below stating your preferred meeting time, namely 5.00-5.30 pm or 6.30-7.00 pm, and return it to the school office by Friday 30 January.
