Swine flu

Dear Parents

Swine flu

I thought it would be helpful to set out the current position regarding “swine flu”.

In common with other schools we are receiving regular updates and advice from both the local authority and central government.  At present there is no need to take any specific action other than that set out below.

You will, within the next few days, receive a leaflet from the government entitled “Important information about swine flu”.  Please take particular note of the advice on page 6 which explains that the best protection against flu is to follow good hygiene practices.  These are repeated here:

  • Always carry tissues
  • Use clean tissues to cover your mouth and nose when you cough and sneeze
  • Bin the tissues after one use
  • Wash your hands with soap and hot water or a sanitiser gel often

Please support us by reinforcing these points with your children.  We shall be making available a supply of sanitiser gel for use during the school day.  While tissues can also be provided, it would be better if you could make arrangements for your child to come to school equipped with these.

We shall make changes to our cleaning regime to ensure that appropriate additional attention is given to the hard surfaces where the flu virus can potentially survive for some time.

In order to ensure that communication channels remain open we shall be checking that all the contact details for our whole school community are accurate.  I would appreciate your cooperation with this and would ask that, through your child, you provide us with e-mail and mobile phone details if you have not already done so.

Any changes in the school’s position will be posted on our website:

www.lanfranc.com

I would urge you to check this regularly not just for information relating to swine flu but also to remain abreast of the rather more exciting things that are happening at school.

I know I can count on your support in maintaining a calm and purposeful atmosphere especially as we approach the all important examination season.

Yours sincerely
