Food is an extremely important part of nursery life. We are keen to give children a balanced and varied diet and to encourage them to see eating as sociable, healthy and fun. All meals are prepared and cooked on site each day. Salt is not used in our cooking and sugar is used sparingly (no sugar on cereals). Menus are prepared in advance and wherever possible, special dietary needs are catered for. Children are allowed to eat in a way which is comfortable and familiar to them. Multi-cultural aspects are also considered.
To ensure meal times are a positive experience for all basic guidelines are in place:
- Children and staff will sit together in small groups. To encourage appropriate conversation, etc.
- Children are given a small helping of the meal and are encouraged, never forced, to try a little of everything.
- Whatever they do not like can be left provided they have tried.
- All children will be offered pudding regardless of whether or not they have eaten the main meal.
Breakfast is served from 8.00-8.45 am. Children arriving after this will not be provided with breakfast.
For babies individual feeding ‘plans’ will be put in place – in accordance with parent/babies wishes.
