Refugee Week is celebrated every year in June to highlight the positive contribution that refugees have made to our country and to raise awareness about what it really means to be a refugee or asylum seeker. As part of this year’s celebrations schools across the borough were invited to participate in a poetry competition organised by Croydon’s Refugee Advisory Team.

During their English lessons pupils in years 8 and 10 wrote excellent poems which showed their understanding and empathy with refugees and asylum seekers. Shanice Harrison’s poem called “If Only” won 2nd prize.  She received a certificate and prize from the Mayor of Croydon as part of Croydon’s Refugee Week celebrations. Well done Shanice!
