Year 7 parents attended a meeting with members of the school’s leadership group to discuss their child(ren)’s experiences of their first term at Archbishop Lanfranc.
They were asked, “What has gone well?”.
Parents highlighted the following aspects of school life they considered to be strongly positive:
• Quick response to issues raised by parents
• Good sense of community
• Welcoming diversity
• Work pitched at the right level for pupils
• Encouragement for pupils to gain independence and increase their level of
responsibility and maturity
• Pupils feel safe
• Pupils have gained self confidence
• Self organisation and responsibility for ensuring completion of homework has
improved
• Pupils like their teachers
• Pupils enjoy the afterschool clubs, especially sports
• The excellent transition process from junior to secondary school - some parents had
experience of the one to one support offered by the SENCO which they found outstandingly useful
• Special support projects such as the “Forest Project” used to raise self confidence and
improve self management, also other school trips such as the visit to Bodiam
• Good problem solving approach to issues, eg, bullying, helping the pupil to
understand not just punish.
• Texting parents to keep them informed
• Interesting lessons
• Pupils know how well they are doing following regular assessments
When asked for ideas that might be included for consideration in future planning, they suggested:
• Longer lunch breaks
• Post start and finish times of after school activities on the website
• More opportunities for parents to meet with staff in an informal way (like the
structure of the Parents’ Voice meeting)
• Drop in evenings for parents to meet teachers
• Find a way of moving pupils down groups without denting their confidence
• Hosting a community celebration
