Respect

This year’s prize giving was a very successful and joyous occasion.  It will live in my memory for a couple of very powerful reasons.

Firstly, I have never heard such a resounding response to the announcement of the examination results as came spontaneously from all parts of the audience yesterday.

Secondly, I thought the standing ovation given to Aiyesha Latiff by the other members of her year group demonstrated very clearly that achievement is “cool” and deserving of respect.  Amongst last year’s outstanding GCSE results, Aiyesha’s were exceptional, including 7A*, 3.5A and an A in AS ICT.

In an inspiring speech our guest of honour, Brett Wigdortz, emphasised the importance of “community” in achieving success.  This was a fantastic day for our community and another step along the road to ever greater things.
