‘Decisions, decisions’ are not only what we have to deal with in almost every aspect of our lives but this was also the title given to us by our lecturer, Mr M Perkins. Mr Perkins from St. Olaves School got us to connect to the dynamics of mazes –leading us from the beginners’ stage right through to enabling us to find our own pathways...

After letting our mathematical nerves kick in we were ready to move onto the interpretation of Network Diagrams.

Our exercise involved us being presented with a network of wires in which we were asked a list of questions,  e.g:

  • Can you find the shortest way to connect all five friends’ telephone lines?
  • Is it possible to connect all five friends with less than 41m of wire used? And so on…After a brief explanation we were sent off into the three classrooms to continue this exercise.

(For more information on this topic you can visit this website that I found: motivate.maths.org/content/DiseaseDynamics/About/Data-InterpretingNetworkDiagram).

Returning back to the Lecture Theatre to end our day, we were told that we will not be attending the Mathematics Master classes for the next two Saturdays due the School Half-Term.  P.S. I don’t know about you, but I’m really going to be suffering from M.M.W.S (Mathematics Masterclass Withdrawal Syndrome) next weekend and I feel the symptoms coming on!
