THE ROYAL INSTITUTION MATHEMATICS MASTERCLASS 2011 - Saturday 29 January
The evening of Friday 28th January 2011 celebrated 30 years of Mathematics Masterclasses and as it so happens (at the end of a full on Year 9 school week-with it being time for GCSE options) and simply due to ‘just too much, too little time’ I made the choice to miss out on the event, although it was only a matter of hopping on a fast train to London Victoria; meet up with Dad and get ourselves to Westminster...
Arriving punctually and upon registering, getting my name label, I entered the Lecture Theatre only to feel as though I was part of a flock of sheep, whilst being instructed to get our height measurements pronto!
Mr. B Cloves who is both a teacher at Wallington School for Girls and also a lecturer for the Mathematics Masterclasses for the last decade introduced the term ‘Standard Deviation’ and how to find the standard deviation in a set of any given numbers.

Q.1
From a total of eight sessions I have now completed two, which leaves six remaining sessions: 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8
a) Work out the mean of 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8
b) Using answer a) work out the standard deviation of 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8
c) Plot the standard deviation on the graph below.
