We are very proud to tell pupils and parents that 26 members of staff at Archbishop Lanfranc completed the 20 hour Language in Learning Across the Curriculum (LiLAC) accredited course. The course was funded by London Challenge and delivered by Vibee Bradbury Senior Secondary Consultant for EMAS, Cambridge Education at Islington and Manny Vazquez, Lead Consultant for EAL in Hounslow.
London Challenge is using The Archbishop Lanfranc School as an example of good practice as ‘26’ is the largest number of staff in any school to qualify since the programme began. Ms Lukhele gave two presentations at the Pan London Conference earlier this month to model good practice for other EMAS co-ordinators.
Staff attended 10 two hour twilight sessions during which time they explored ways in which they could put language at the centre of their teaching in all subject areas. Teachers were offered a range of strategies which they have been keen to try out for themselves in their classrooms. Staff report that the children are engaged and enthused by these strategies. The teachers had to read extensively between module activities as their homework!
Those interested in the course came from a wide range of subject areas, EMAS department and Pupil Support Services. Several staff now plan to take the LiLAC learning forward through LilAC cross-curricular links and the School’s Development Plan reflects the level of interest and determination to reach all staff over the next year. Finally we are in the process of bidding for money for LiLAC for pupils.
Well done to the 26 members of staff who qualified.
J McCarthy and G Lukhele
