Tim Campbell, local business entrepreneur and first winner of Alan Sugar’s BBC show ‘The Apprentice’ arrived at the gates of Archbishop Lanfranc last term with a mixture of nerves and excitement at the prospect of teaching a Religious Education lesson to 8-2. He was here as part of Teach First Week, the charity’s annual bid to persuade the UK’s most influential leaders out of the corridors of power and into the classroom to experience life as a teacher.

A typically warm Lanfranc welcome at reception and the charm of 8-2 soon settled his nerves and he went on to deliver a fantastic lesson on the importance of reflection upon good and bad events in our lives and the role of religion in personal growth.

He ended up enjoying himself so much that he vowed to exchange the boardroom for the board pen and become a teacher himself one day! He also admitted being bowled over by the friendly atmosphere within the school and the brightness and enthusiasm shown by the pupils he taught.

BBC cameras were here to film it all and Mr O’Dowd and Tim appeared on the BBC Breakfast show for a special feature on the lesson the following Sunday morning. The school was shown to a national audience in a great light thanks to the hard work and dedication of all staff and pupils.
