Fourth Plinth Art Award
Departmental news - Creative and Performing Arts department

On 23rd April I went with Ms Nixon into London to collect my prize for winning the Croydon Borough Fourth Plinth Art Award. We set off from school early and caught the tram and train into London. It was a beautiful, sunny day so we walked along the river past HMS Belfast taking a few photos and finally reached City Hall.

We went through security and collected our passes and walked up the spiral walkway to the conference hall. All along the wall was the display of winners art work. When I looked up I saw my design high up on the wall. I really enjoyed looking at all of the art work by the other London Borough winners. In the hall I sat with the other prize winners and went up when my name was called. When the title of my work ‘I Love You My Darling’ was read out there was an 'Ahhh' from the audience.

After the prize giving ceremony we had the opportunity to take some more photographs. We were given a packed lunch and sat outside City Hall enjoying the sunshine and the view of Tower Bridge and the Tower of London.

Only one result this week, that being from the last Football match our Year 11's will ever play for the school.  Unfortunately we were narrowly defeated by Harris Crystal Palace with a score of 3-4.

Well done to all of the Year 11 team, many of whom have represented the School throughout their 5 years with us.  We thank each and every one of you.

With the cancellation of the South of England championships because of the heavy snow earlier, the indoor season came down to two consecutive weekends either side of the half term holiday.

Three new young athletes made their individual debuts in club competition at the Surrey Championships and Creston Harrison resumed his progress after a long spell recovering from injury.

Sports Results - 8th March

Just a couple of results recorded from this week, one being a brilliant 0-0 draw in Yr 10 football against Edenham.

Yes, I know that sounds a tad oxymoronic, but our team were pressed back into their own half most of the game, with shots pinging towards goal with the incessancy of rain in a Croydon summer.

A defensive performance as brilliant as O.J Simpsons legal team looked to be in vain when a Lanfranc player fouled in the box - conceding a penalty - only for our goalkeeper to save Banks-esquely to his right.

Elation followed, but the onslaught continued until, with deleterious timing, Lanfranc conceded yet another penalty in the last minute of the game.  The pitch fell silent but to a man, Lanfranc heads were held high.  The Edenham players run-up was strong, the shot lashed towards the bottom left corner, but then!  Saved!!!   George Steer the hero!!!

As Moliere said, "The greater the obstacle, the more glory in overcoming it".

In the other game, our Yr 7's also played Edenham and were caned 3-10.
